Transmission and distribution pipelines are linear assets of high environmental and operational risk, carrying fluids under high pressure over long distances. The quality of field welds (particularly girth weld seams) directly determines line integrity; corrosion, mechanical damage and weld defects are the most frequently encountered damage mechanisms. Pipeline inspection therefore requires continuity through both construction and operational periods.
