Training
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Level 2 — EN ISO 9712 Preparation
Level 2 competency training for weld and volumetric examination using angle and normal probe techniques.
The course covers ultrasonic wave theory, probe selection (normal, angle, twin-crystal), equipment calibration and the use of reference blocks (V1/V2, step block). Participants learn discontinuity location, sizing (6 dB and 20 dB drop, DAC/DGS methods) and evaluation techniques in welds through hands-on practice.
The programme includes practical topics such as thickness measurement, lamellar tearing and twin-layer discrimination, and provides preparation for the EN ISO 9712 Level 2 certification examination. Practical work is carried out on real test pieces and calibration blocks.
Learning outcomes
- Calibrate equipment and probes using DAC/DGS methods prior to examination
- Locate and size discontinuities in welds and forged/rolled material
- Interpret discontinuity type based on echo height and return signal
- Evaluate and report against acceptance criteria
Who should attend?
