Training

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Level 2 — EN ISO 9712 Preparation

Level 2 training for detecting surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials.

The course covers magnetisation techniques (longitudinal, circular, yoke, prod, coil), magnetic flux density, dry and wet methods, and the use of fluorescent/visible particles. Participants learn to interpret discontinuity indications, distinguishing genuine from non-relevant indications (flux leakage, writing indication).

The programme includes control of visible and UV-A light intensity, demagnetisation and equipment verification (Berthold bar, flux indicator). Theoretical and practical preparation for the EN ISO 9712 Level 2 certification examination is provided.

Learning outcomes

  • Select the magnetisation technique and current type appropriate to part geometry
  • Interpret indications, distinguishing relevant from non-relevant indications
  • Verify equipment and lighting conditions against standards
  • Evaluate and report against acceptance criteria

Who should attend?

Inspection personnel holding MT Level 1 or equivalent experience, weld and casting quality control technicians.
