Training
Visual Inspection of Welds — EN ISO 17637
Hands-on training focused on visual examination rules for fusion welds and classification of weld imperfections.
The course covers pre-, during- and post-welding visual examination of fusion-welded joints, examination conditions and the use of weld measuring gauges (throat, leg, undercut, excess). Participants learn to classify surface weld imperfections (cracks, porosity, undercut, lack of penetration, spatter, burn groove) according to EN ISO 6520-1 and to evaluate them against the EN ISO 5817 quality levels.
Practical work is carried out on real welded specimens; examination reporting is demonstrated with examples. The course serves as an introduction to the EN ISO 9712 VT method but does not replace the certification examination.
Learning outcomes
- Identify weld imperfections according to the EN ISO 6520-1 system
- Take geometric measurements using weld gauges
- Evaluate imperfections against EN ISO 5817 quality levels (B, C, D)
- Prepare a visual examination report
Who should attend?
Welding operators, welding foremen, quality control personnel and site inspection officers.
